Educational Policy of Madrasa-tul Islah:
Madrasa-tul Islah represents a new, bold and revolutionary approach in the field of Muslim religious education. There could be no two opinions that the well being of the Muslims depends on the quality of their religious education. But what do we mean by religious education? Is it the same education, which our institutions of higher learning have been offering for the last so many years? If so, then why the desired results have not been achieved? This would clearly suggest that there is some basic flaw in the educational system that has been prevalent in our educational institutions for centuries. It is definitely not the same education, which was imparted to the earlier generations of the Muslims. Had it been the same education it would have yielded the same results. Clearly, we have lost the track of that true Islamic education which was the distinctive feature of the early history of Islam and which took our earlier generations to the heights of glory. It was in fact the glorious Qur'an that had made all the difference. It was bestowed by Almighty Allah to show the right path to the humanity and dispel the all-pervasive darkness that had enveloped the world at the time of its revelation. It showed the way for the entire world to follow. The ignorant and uncivilised Arabs were turned into the noblest people who ever walked on the face of this earth. This became possible only because they sincerely and whole-heartedly followed the teachings of the Holy Qur'an and moulded their lives and the society in accordance with its injunctions. This was the panacea that was given by Almighty Allah to the humanity to cure all the ills. But gradually we drifted away from this noble path and got entangled in other pursuits and forsook the Qur'an. We had to pay a very heavy price for this deviation and as a punishment for this grave offence we have been consigned to the dustbin of history. The only way to regain our lost position and glory is to return to the same source of guidance again. Without returning to the Qur'an and giving it the importance in our lives, which is due to it, we cannot hope for any change in our situation for the better. There is absolutely no other option available to us. Madrasa-tul Islah fully recognises this imperative need and stands for total and unconditional return to the Qur'an.
Concept of Education
The need of imparting material education to the students had always been recognized at Madrasa-tul Islah. It was due to this fact that teaching of English was included in the syllabus of the Madrasah almost from the very beginning and the management stuck to it in spite of stiff opposition from some sections. At that time it was an unprecedented step in the realm of religious education. In recent years need for the reform of the syllabus of the Muslim religious institutions has been widely felt. The changed situation of the country and the world at large makes a change in our perspective also necessary. Madrasa-tul Islah was alive to this changing scenario around it and was among the first Muslim religious institutions to adjust its syllabus in accordance with the changing times. The English language was already an important part of the syllabus since 1912 and its content was substantially increased over the years and now it was brought up to B.A. level. Besides it, a number of new subjects were also introduced. These include Hindi, Sanskrit, Geography, History, Political Science, and Economics besides Urdu and Persian, which were earlier taught only at the primary level. In addition to these subjects in the area of Humanities and Social Sciences, subjects of pure sciences such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics were also introduced up to the level of Intermediate. This has imparted its syllabus a variety, width and depth generally not found in the curriculum of religious institutions and shows the courage of conviction and resilience of those at the he
